Yellow-eyed Penguin Habitat

Hoiho or yellow-eyed penguins nest in the Curio Bay area. One of the rarest penguins in the world, their population has declined from the loss of coastal forest and from the introduction of predators. Much work has been done in Curio Bay to restore their natural habitat. Yellow-eyed penguins leave for sea early in the morning and return early evening. If you are lucky enough to spot one please keep your distance to help protect them. Dogs are also prohibited in the area.
